What is .WED?

How can we use our .WED domain name with our wedding website?

If you already have a wedding website or want to use your .wed domain name with a free wedding website (see list below), use the "Web Forwarding" feature in your Domain Name Control Panel at Nominate.wed to mask the URL address of the current site with your new .wed domain name.

HOW TO REPLACE A LONG URL WITH YOUR .WED DOMAIN NAME:
  • After you buy your .wed domain name from Nominate.wed you will receive a username and password
  • Log into Nominate.wed 
  • Go to "Manage Your Domain"
  • Click the "Web Forwarding" option  
  • Choose "Cloak" or "Redirect" from dropdown menu
  • Next enter the URL you want to replace, you must enter the "http://" as a part of the URL, "www" is optional.
  • Click "Change Web Forwarding"
  • The domain name URL should be updated within 24hrs.

Where do we buy a .WED domain name?

Nominate.wed - is in the United Kingdom. You can pay with US, Australian, and New Zealand dollars, British Pounds, Euros, Swedish Krona and Danish Krone. Do not pay VAT if you're from the US or a non-VAT country.

How much will .WED domain names cost?

Atgron sets the wholesale price for second-level (domainname.wed) and third-level  (domainname.phrase.wed) .WED domain names. Only Registrars can sell .WED domain names to the public and each Registrar can set their own retail price. Atgron has suggested the following pricing to Registrars:

1. Cost of domainname.wed (for example - MaryandJohn.wed)
  • Year 1 and Year 2 $80 USD or less per year
  • Year 3 – Year 10 $30,000 USD or more per year

2. Cost of domainname.phrase.wed (for example - MaryandJohn.Feb2014.wed)
  • $50 or less per year for up to 10 years

Why is the 3-10 year annual cost of a .WED domain name at the second level higher than years 1 and 2?

Many couples getting married will have the same name as other couples and will not be able to buy their preferred .WED extension if these extensions are reserved for 10 years. The price of .WED extensions at the third level (domainname.phrase.wed) can be purchased for up to 10 years if couples want to maintain their .WED website for longer than two years. The higher 3-10 yr price is also designed to deter domain investors from buying and selling names at a much higher price to couples, a prohibited practice for the .wed domain names.

How do we create our .WED domain name?

You control the words to the left of a dot. The words to the right of a dot are fixed. Only letters, numbers and dashes/hyphens are allowed in a domain name. Here's how it works. In order to use a third level extension, it must be in the list of available extensions.

See some examples of correct and incorrect formats below:
Example 1: If Mary and John are getting married on November 25, 2015.
Incorrect format: john&mary.nov-25-2015.wed
Correct format: johnandmary-25.nov2015.wed ("nov2015.wed" is available in the list of third level extensions, "nov-25-2015" is not)

Example 2: Maria and Juan want guests to know they are getting married in Mexico City.
Incorrect format: JuanyMaria.cuidaddemexicoboda2015.wed
Correct format: JuanyMaria-cuidaddemexicoboda2015.wed ("cuidaddemexicoboda2015" is not in the list of available third level extensions but a dash can be used to the left of the dot.)

How do we keep our .WED website content if we change our .WED domain name every two years?

Simple. Every domain name points to a folder that contains website files. Before the old .WED domain name expires, buy the new .WED domain name and “point” the new domain name to the folder that contains your current website files. If you cannot find the “pointer” function, just ask your domain name provider or look at their FAQs.

What if we want to keep our .WED domain name longer than two years?

Purchase domainname.phrase.wed (for example - MaryandJohn.Feb2014.wed) for ten years or autorenew payment each year for ten years.

Why can we only purchase our domain name for 10 years?

ICANN, the organization that makes the rules for the internet, allows domain names to be purchased for a maximum of 10 years.

Can we purchase a .WED domain name in different currencies?

Yes, some Registrars will sell .WED domain names in multiple currencies.

How can I buy a .WED extension for my business?

If you want a .WED name at the second-level (e.g., www.myweddingbusines.wed) level and do not want to pay the higher 3-10 year renewal fees, there are two alternatives.


  1. Become a reseller of .WED domain names and the 3-10 year renewal fee is waived. To become a reseller, you must sign-up with the .WED Registrar, Nominate.wed. Registrars are companies that sell domain names to the public. Atgron, Inc. is a Registry Operator and cannot sell domain names directly to the public.
  2. If your business grosses less than $3 million dollars per year and is not publicly traded, you can join the Atgron Small Business program after year 2. Your business will receive a unique promotion code and as long as 10 .WED domain names are purchased each year with your code, the 3-10 year renewal fee is waived. Financial audits will be conducted on an annual basis to verify eligibility.

.WED domain names purchased at the third-level (e.g. www.myweddingbusiness.planner.wed or www.myweddingbusiness.officiant.wed) can be renewed up to 10 years.

What activities are prohibited in the .WED space?

  • No parked pages for resale.
  • No parked pages with linked advertisements for monetization.
  • No pornography.
  • No hate messages against people because of race, color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, occupation etc.
  • No mail order bride sites.
  • No child bride sites.
  • No human trafficking.

Can we resell our .WED domain name?

.WED domain names cannot be purchased for resale or sold at auctions. Upon request, refunds will be provided by Nominate.wed within the first three days after a purchase. 

How do I report abuse of rules for .WED domain names?

Send an email with proof of the abusive behavior to abuse@atgron.wed or mail Atgron, Inc. 9435 Lorton Market St., Lorton, VA 22079 Attn: Abuse Dept . Abuse of .WED terms and conditions is cause for immediate suspension of a domain name and termination of a registration without a refund of monies paid if abuse is confirmed.

What is the best way to determine if our .WED domain name is available?

Type any name you would like in your website browser before trying to buy it from a Registrar.

Where can we find a complete list of all the available .WED extensions?

 The Atgron website will have the entire list of .WED extensions available for sale.

How can we change the location of our website hosting for our .WED domain name?

Domain names are associated with website hosting via nameservers.  Changing nameservers is simple.

  1. Buy website hosting from the new provider and obtain their nameserver information.

  2. Log into your domain name administration area at the site you purchased your domain name. 

  3. Change your nameservers to the nameservers of the new preferred website hosting company.

  4. Wait a few hours or a day or two for the change to take place over the internet.

  5. Tell the new website hosting company you have associated your .WED domain name to their nameservers and you will see your domain name listed as an option in the administration area.

You can do this over and over again without transferring your .WED domain name but keep in mind if you paid for website hosting services from one vendor and move to another vendor you are not likely to receive a refund and your website content will need to be redone completely or moved, which can be complicated.
